Interior view of a modern living and dining space with wooden ceiling, large windows, dining table, green sofa, and kitchen area.

A modern interior space with a high, sloped wooden ceiling, featuring a dining area with a large wooden table and cushioned chairs. A living area with a green sofa, a wood-burning stove, and a guitar is visible. Large windows provide views of a snowy landscape outside. The kitchen area has dark cabinets and a light countertop, with bowls of fruit and plants adding decorative touches.

Story

A harmonious blend of geometry and nature in Quebec's rugged landscape Set against the serene backdrop of Quebec's rugged hills and tranquil lake, this mountain home by OPAL, with interiors by Lux Decor, is a testament to thoughtful design that respects its environment. The house's pinwheel formation, with gabled timber volumes radiating from a central glazed corridor, allows it to nestle comfortably within the landscape. Each volume, crafted from locally manufactured cross-laminated timber, ensures durability and warmth, while the central corridor maintains a visual connection to the outdoors. The design prioritizes performance, featuring an airtight, highly insulated envelope and high-performance windows that optimize solar gain. A heat-recovery ventilation system ensures efficient energy use, maintaining a comfortable interior climate. Inside, the main living room, framed by expansive lake views, and the dining area, with its prominent wood table and lighting, emphasize the home's connection to nature. The kitchen, with its dark cabinets, offers a striking contrast, while natural light enhances the space's functionality. Each family wing functions as a self-contained unit, offering privacy and independence while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic throughout the home. The pinwheel layout ensures a seamless flow between shared and private areas.
