Wood House, Barwon Heads
A Cohesive and Adaptable Family Residence What began as a modest brief for a young and growing family evolved into a thoughtful renovation that reimagines an existing home in Barwon Heads. The original structure, marred by unsympathetic alterations, was transformed by JAK Architecture into a cohesive and robust dwelling that respects its past while embracing the future. The renovation retained much of the existing house, maintaining the original footprint and preserving valuable elements. With a budget of $600,000, the additions were designed to sit quietly beneath the existing envelope, ensuring a humble and integrated feel. The minimal and understated color palette creates a calm backdrop, while raw and durable materials ensure longevity. Landscaping with low-maintenance native plants integrates the home into its coastal setting. The backyard, a simple expanse of grass and sand, provides a durable play area for children and a relaxed space for entertaining. A sunroom at the rear opens to a cluster of birch trees, capturing morning sunlight and fostering a fluid connection between indoors and outdoors. The design prioritizes flexibility, allowing spaces to adapt as the family grows and changes. This renovation is built not just for the present, but for many future chapters.
