A seamless integration of architecture and nature in Kuala Lumpur's lush hills. High above the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur, Falanchity House emerges as a serene retreat nestled into the verdant slopes of Ukay Heights. Designed by MJ Kanny Architect, this residence takes full advantage of its elevated position, where the cooler climate and gentle breezes provide a stark contrast to the urban heat below. The house is a testament to working with the landscape rather than against it, descending gracefully down the hillside in a series of cascading levels that reveal the home’s intricacies as one moves through it. Central to the design is a massive canopy roof, lined with Nyatoh timber, that stretches across the structure like a protective tree canopy. Supported by steel I-beams that mimic the branching of a leaf, the roof frames breathtaking views of the surrounding greenery. This architectural feature gives the house a light, floating appearance, enhancing the connection between the built environment and nature. The journey through Falanchity House begins at the top of the hill, where visitors enter from street level, only to discover the multi-level residence unfolding below. Skylights and strategically placed windows draw natural light into the interior, while the staircase serves as a vital link between the levels, offering varied perspectives of the lush surroundings. Living spaces are positioned directly beneath the expansive canopy, allowing for a seamless flow of air and light. Large openings blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, inviting the surrounding vegetation to become part of the interior atmosphere. The pool, situated within the descending layout, mirrors the tranquility of its jungle-like setting, offering a quiet respite from the city.
