VILLA IV . Brussels

A family home designed for accessibility and connection with nature.

VILLA IV in Brussels is a remarkable residential project by OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen, crafted for a family with two young children, one of whom requires a wheelchair. This house is not just a dwelling but a world in itself, designed to be accessible and fluid, offering a continuous panorama of spaces that blend seamlessly with the garden.

The architectural concept revolves around a round floor plan that emphasizes the relationship between the home and its outdoor environment. This centripetal design collects various rooms around a central space that serves as a storage area, creating a harmonious flow throughout the house. Each room is thoughtfully designed with varying heights and widths, providing a rich spatial experience. For instance, the swimming pool area is intentionally hot and humid, enhancing the sensory experience of the home.

The design also incorporates breakout rooms that offer intimate spaces for relaxation and interaction. Topping the structure is a unique hat-like roof that is partially accessible and fully planted, featuring a radial metal framework that supports lush trailing plants, further blurring the lines between architecture and nature.
