Modern house with large glass windows and sloped roof in snowy landscape, interior with wood and steel design.

A modern house with large glass windows and a sloped roof, surrounded by snow. The interior features wood and steel elements with a fireplace and a view of the snowy landscape.

Story

Curved glass walls and natural materials frame the Wasatch Mountain views. Nestled in the rugged terrain of Park City, Utah, Quarry House by RKD Architects is a masterful response to its dramatic mountain setting. The residence comprises three interconnected pods, each defined by a distinctive curved, outward-leaning glass wall that reaches toward the surrounding Wasatch Mountain Range. This architectural gesture creates a seamless visual connection with the expansive landscape. The material palette is a harmonious blend of cut strip limestone, exposed steel, wood beams, and concrete floors, all of which contribute to the home's textural richness. These elements are complemented by custom metal cladding, which adds a layer of sophistication to the structure. Inside, the home unfolds in an open-plan layout that prioritizes the landscape as the focal point. The main living areas, including the kitchen, dining, and living room, orient themselves towards the panoramic views, ensuring that the natural beauty remains a constant presence. The living room's concrete floors and fireplace hearth provide a monolithic backdrop, while a playful hanging chair and a built-in window bench enhance the space's functionality without detracting from the views.
