Living and dining area in a loft with modern and vintage furniture, wooden panels, and built-in shelves.

A stylish living and dining area in a loft apartment featuring a mix of modern and vintage furniture. The space includes a beige sofa and a textured armchair, a round marble coffee table, and a dining table with chairs. The walls are lined with wooden panels, and there are built-in shelves displaying decorative items. A colorful artwork hangs on the wall, and large windows allow natural light to fill the room.

Story

Custom oak, Venetian plaster, and vintage furniture shape a warm, inviting home. In the heart of New York City, a full-floor loft has undergone a remarkable transformation by BarlisWedlick Architects, with interiors curated by MK Workshop. Originally characterized by stark white walls and grey millwork, the apartment now exudes warmth and personality through the introduction of rich materials and textures. Central to this metamorphosis is the extensive use of custom White Oak, which defines the space through walls, storage, and shelving, creating a refined and inviting atmosphere. The foyer sets the tone with a custom trapezoid limestone floor and a Ralph Pucci Oval Cumulus chandelier, establishing a sculptural focal point. A woven tapestry by Rachel Snack adds warmth, while strategic wall adjustments conceal utility spaces. The open living and dining area is a study in warmth, with custom millwork and collected furniture pieces. Hidden storage for vinyl records and an integrated stereo system reflect the family's love of music. A Venetian plaster ceiling in the dining area introduces contrast, while a custom lacquered dining table by MK Workshop and Mario Bellini Cab chairs enhance the space. Adjacent to the kitchen, a cozy breakfast area features a custom Verdi Alpi marble table and built-in banquette seating, balancing the apartment's architectural lines with comfort. The kitchen itself is a dramatic interplay of White Oak, blackened steel, and Blue Note cabinets, contrasted by bright Pental Quartz countertops and indigo Zellige tiles. Throughout the loft, soft textures and warm tones create inviting spaces. The home office, part of a multifunctional den, features vintage furniture and a custom glass-top desk. The primary bedroom continues the theme with layered materials and vintage furnishings, while the guest bedroom surprises with a hideaway bed concealed behind White Oak paneling. The guest bathroom, with its blackened steel shower doors and Venetian plaster walls, maintains the apartment's focus on craftsmanship and material richness, offering a modern and refined retreat.
