A modern black A-frame cabin with large windows, set in a forest.

A modern A-frame cabin with a black exterior situated in a forested area, featuring a steep roof and large glass windows.

Story

A contemporary retreat amidst Washington's rugged landscape In the mountainous terrain of Washington, the Stephenson Design Collective has crafted a striking A-frame cabin that harmonizes modern aesthetics with the rugged beauty of its surroundings. The cabin's sharp triangular silhouette, clad in a bold black metal finish, stands in stark contrast to the forested landscape, particularly during the snow-laden winters. Prefabricated plywood panels form the core of the structure, ensuring precision and efficiency in construction while maintaining the clean lines that define its modern identity. The standing-seam metal roof, finished in black, serves a practical purpose. It efficiently sheds the heavy snowfall typical of the region, embodying the classic functionality of the A-frame design. Inside, the atmosphere shifts dramatically; wood-lined walls and ceilings imbue the space with warmth and texture, creating an inviting retreat from the harsh exterior climate. The black wood-burning fireplace anchors the living area, complementing the darker metal details and providing a cozy focal point. Large sliding glass doors open onto covered verandahs, seamlessly extending the living space into the surrounding forest and offering protection from the elements. The kitchen, with its light birch cabinetry and minimalist shelving, maintains the cabin's restrained aesthetic, while dark countertops provide a visual link to the exterior's boldness. Upstairs, the bedrooms are nestled beneath the steep roofline, with large windows framing views of the forest, integrating the natural landscape into the interior experience.
