Monkton
A multi-generational home harmonizing with its landscape Monkton, a new residential project by Sandy Rendel Architects, replaces a former bungalow in Cuckfield, West Sussex, with a thoughtfully designed multi-generational house. The architecture gracefully follows the natural slope of the site, resulting in a series of stepped levels that enhance the spatial experience with increasingly generous ceiling heights in the principal living areas. The ground floor's rectilinear plan is strategically cut into around the perimeter, allowing sunlight and daylight to penetrate deeper into the interior spaces while creating sheltered outdoor areas. Rising from this base are three distinct bedroom towers, each capped with a mono-pitch roof oriented in different directions. This arrangement ensures privacy from neighboring properties. A covered external link elegantly connects the main house to a separate single-story garage and annexe wing, framing a welcoming entrance courtyard. The design team, led by Leonardo Remuzzi, alongside Sandy Rendel and Florencia Rodriguez Aranda, collaborated with 10Build Ltd and Structure Workshop to bring this project to fruition.
