Maison des Associations et Halle de Marché
A contemporary architectural intervention in Pont-l’Évêque, harmonizing with its historical and urban context. The Maison des Associations et Halle de Marché in Pont-l’Évêque, designed by ACAU Architectes, is a testament to the thoughtful integration of contemporary architecture within a historical setting. The project respects the local vernacular while introducing modern functionality and aesthetics. The design strategy revolves around the retention of the “Orange” building, creating a compact layout that opens up a central garden. This garden facilitates rainwater infiltration and provides a buffer from nearby housing. The new community house asserts its presence on Place Foch with a wooden peristyle that unifies the entrances and serves as a social hub. The hall, accessible from this covered space, offers flexibility and a new perspective towards the Touques valley. Architecturally, the project employs a mass-timber structure with façades that echo local half-timbered buildings. The use of lime render and larch cladding connects the new with the old, creating a dialogue with the surrounding urban fabric.
