M45 Construction of a house . Castanet-Tolosan
A stunning house designed to blend seamlessly with its forested surroundings.
Nestled in the serene landscape of Castanet-Tolosan, this house by BAST is a masterclass in harmonizing architecture with nature. The plot, characterized by its narrow and elongated shape, slopes gently towards a stream, creating a unique challenge that the architects embraced with ingenuity. The construction is aligned parallel to the contour lines of the land, minimizing excavation and preserving the site's natural beauty.
The striking single-pitch roof mirrors the terrain's profile, directing its ridge toward the access path, while a generous roof overhang provides a sheltered space from rain and the summer sun. The foundation and flooring are crafted from polished concrete and cement blocks, offering a robust yet elegant base for the structure.
The main framework is composed of solid Douglas fir wood, showcasing a commitment to sustainable materials. Two load-bearing lines of posts and beams support the rafters, allowing for the installation of wood fiber insulation that enhances the home's energy efficiency. The glazed openings feature sliding frames in natural aluminum, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor spaces. The roof is adorned with traditional canal tiles, while the solid facades are insulated with wood fiber and clad in weathered Douglas fir boards, creating a warm and inviting aesthetic.
