A harmonious blend of history and modern living

The M47 project in Toulouse represents a thoughtful renovation of a post-war hollow brick building that had suffered from decades of neglect. This unique structure, characterized by its narrow and tall profile with a distinctive three-sided roof, has been transformed into a modern living space while maintaining its historical essence. The building's morphology allows for a narrow passage that connects the street to a serene garden, creating a sense of intimacy and privacy.

The design introduces loggias on both the street and garden sides, providing sheltered outdoor areas that enhance the living experience. These loggias are designed to be compact and insulated, featuring existing openings that are fitted with mobile mosquito nets for protection against summer pests. The transformation also includes the replacement of windows with insulated natural anodized aluminum, ensuring energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal.

A significant feature of the renovation is the large opening created on the garden side, which invites abundant natural light into the loggia and living room, fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere. The new thermal envelope, constructed with a timber frame wall and solid Douglas fir joists, is applied to the interior, defining a compact and insulated volume that opens up to the outdoor spaces within the old construction.

This project not only revitalizes a neglected building but also enhances the quality of life for its inhabitants, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.
