Story

A 20th-century courtyard house reimagined for modern family life Lacasadiviaferrara, located in Legnano, Italy, is a sensitive renovation project by O A S I architects. This early 20th-century courtyard house has been transformed into a vibrant family home while retaining its historical essence. The north facade faces Via Ferrara, while the south facade opens onto a lush internal garden, creating a seamless dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces. The renovation respects the original load-bearing brick structure, which defines a sequence of intimate rooms. A significant intervention was the creation of a double-height space with a permeable floor of wooden planks, connecting the living room and a raised study area. This design allows light and air to flow freely, enhancing the spatial experience. The project embraces sustainable practices, utilizing natural materials such as raw earth, clay, and hemp-lime. Workshops were organized to explore traditional techniques, including the creation of a Roman floor using opus signinum. The heating system relies on a wood-burning stove, emphasizing a return to simpler, more sustainable living practices.
