GNR House
A Dialogue Between Eras in Carabanchel GNR House, situated in the peripheral district of Carabanchel, Madrid, is a comprehensive renovation project by MOCA. This architectural intervention reinterprets the defining elements of 1970s residential blocks, such as terrazzo flooring, aluminum windows, and ceramic tiles, establishing a continuous and cohesive spatial backdrop. The design strategy emphasizes the preservation and enhancement of original features, including green awnings, cast iron radiators, marble tables, and antique wooden furniture. This approach allows these elements to stand out, celebrating their history and imperfections. The renovation achieves a harmonious balance between the old and the new. Contemporary design elements introduce clarity and functionality, while the preserved furniture and architectural details maintain a sense of continuity and memory. The house is not perceived as a completely new space but as a natural evolution, ready to accommodate new stories while honoring its past.
