A seamless blend of modern architecture and outdoor living In the heart of Brookline, Massachusetts, the Urban Oasis Pavilion by Hisel Flynn Architects and G2 Collaborative redefines the concept of a garage. Nestled behind a traditional Victorian home, this concrete structure transcends its utilitarian roots to become a multi-functional space for entertainment and relaxation. The pavilion connects to the main house via a wooden bridge, extending the kitchen and dining areas directly onto a rooftop deck. The lower level accommodates two cars and provides additional space for bikes, games, and storage. It also features a sauna, steam room, and shower, transforming the garage into a wellness retreat. Below the rooftop deck, a landscaped courtyard integrates recycled granite curbs, moss, thyme, and bamboo, softening the concrete edges. A Corten steel fire pit and a granite block birdbath enhance the garden's charm, while steel stairs with Ipe wood treads link the deck to the garden. The rooftop deck, finished in Ipe wood, offers built-in seating, dining areas, and planters, creating a perfect setting for social gatherings. A custom 7-foot hot tub is recessed into the roof, adding a luxurious touch to the outdoor space. The pavilion's design juxtaposes the traditional Victorian architecture with modern materials like concrete and steel, creating a harmonious yet striking contrast.
