Story

A multifunctional space integrating agricultural practice with pedagogy

In the rural landscape of Cabranes, Asturias, the Taller Agropoetico stands as a testament to the seamless integration of agriculture and education. Designed by Atelier Poem for the Foresta Collective, this structure is both a landmark and a functional space within a burgeoning agroforestry program. The project involves the planting of over 1,000 trees across 5 hectares, serving as a hub for community engagement and environmental education.

Built on the footprint of a traditional Asturian barn, the architecture draws from vernacular influences such as the hórreo, translating these into a minimalist form that emphasizes efficiency and durability. The use of simple materials like timber and metal sheeting, combined with essential geometric forms, reflects a commitment to constructive economy. The pavilion rises above the natural slope, preserving the soil's permeability and allowing ecological processes to continue undisturbed.

The structure serves dual purposes: as a flexible space for workshops and community activities, and as a storage area for agricultural tools. Its open design allows for visual continuity with the landscape, transforming it into an observatory of the nascent forest. The large gable roof extends into the landscape, creating a threshold between architecture and nature, while the rhythm of columns along its sides articulates the territory.

  • Minimalist design inspired by Asturian vernacular architecture

  • Use of timber and metal sheeting for durability and simplicity

  • Elevated structure to protect from moisture and preserve natural cycles

  • Open design for visual continuity and community engagement

  • Large gable roof creating a seamless transition with the landscape
