Station Wildeman
A Community Catalyst in Amsterdam's Wildeman Neighborhood Station Wildeman stands as a transformative project in Amsterdam's Wildeman neighborhood, addressing decades-long social challenges through architectural and community innovation. Originally a school building, it now serves as a central hub for socioeconomic revitalization. The project is spearheaded by Stichting Samenwonen-Samenleven, aiming to provide a cohesive platform for educational and professional development programs. The architectural interventions by BETA focus on revealing the latent qualities of the post-1965 structure. The ground floor is reimagined as a welcoming public foyer, enhancing the spatial dynamics of the building and its surroundings. The entrance, once hidden, is now prominently positioned, inviting community engagement. New architectural additions contrast yet harmonize with the original 1960s design, employing horizontal bands and vertical rhythms in the façade. The interior features a warm color palette inspired by existing tiles, complemented by new furnishings and greenery. Designed for disassembly, the project integrates old and new elements into a cohesive material collage.
