A barn-inspired addition that embraces the rugged Norwegian landscape. Rever & Drage have masterfully enhanced a rural Norwegian farmstead with a barn-inspired extension that climbs the rugged, sloping terrain of Nesjestranda. This new addition harmonizes with the existing trio of structures on the site: a traditional red barn, a guest annexe, and a white primary residence. Designed to provide a modern entrance and additional bedroom space, the architects have nestled a timber-clad volume behind the original house, employing a stepped configuration that respects both the topography and the architectural vernacular. The extension's timber cladding echoes the materiality of the traditional barn, while its contemporary form introduces a fresh dialogue between old and new. The strategic positioning of the extension behind the main house ensures that the new structure complements rather than competes with the existing buildings, maintaining the farmstead's cohesive aesthetic.
