House in a Garden
A dwelling embedded within foliage Conceived as a serene retreat above the Birrarung floodplain, House in a Garden by Edition Office is a testament to the harmonious integration of architecture and landscape. This residential project in Melbourne engages with the quietly powerful experience of being enveloped by a dense, verdant environment. The design prioritizes the phenomenological qualities of space, fostering a lasting sense of wellbeing and a deep connection to the natural world. The house accommodates a single family, with spaces designed to expand and contract around existing tree canopies. Smoothly cornered timber walls create a series of interconnected living areas, alongside more intimate zones for retreat. The architecture negotiates a delicate balance between intimacy and expansiveness, privacy and connection. While outward views are maintained, the focus remains on the inward, bodily experience of inhabiting the canopy and surrounding landscape.
