A contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Andalusian farmhouse Cortijo El Pardillo by LAH arquitectura is a masterful reinterpretation of the traditional Andalusian farmhouse, or cortijo, set amidst a rural landscape. The design integrates seamlessly into the village fabric with its white volumes and restrained proportions, echoing the local vernacular architecture. The project is a study in light, proportion, and materiality, where tradition is reimagined through a modern lens. The house is organized around a series of courtyards that structure the interior life, regulate natural ventilation, and create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Arches, oculi, and strategically placed openings allow light to play a central role, modulating the atmosphere of the spaces throughout the day. Materials such as lime, wood, and stone are employed with sincerity and austerity, forming a warm and timeless palette. The whitewashed surfaces act as neutral canvases, highlighting the textures of the carpentry and the nuances of the surrounding landscape. Cortijo El Pardillo is not conceived as an isolated object but as an extension of the inhabited landscape, where architecture mediates between domestic intimacy and the vastness of the territory. Interior courtyards, porches, and cast shadows become transitional elements, reviving the climatic and social essence of Mediterranean architecture.
