Helmholtz Pioneer Campus . Oberschleißheim
A cutting-edge workspace for pioneering research.
The Helmholtz Pioneer Campus (HPC) stands as a testament to modern architectural innovation, strategically located in Neuherberg on the outskirts of Munich. This new laboratory and office building is meticulously designed to cater to the unique needs of international scientists engaged in research for limited periods, typically ranging from five to seven years. The HPC not only promotes interdisciplinary collaboration but also enhances both formal and informal communication among researchers through its thoughtfully organized internal structure.
The building's striking rhombus shape, constructed with a robust reinforced concrete frame, confidently asserts its presence amidst the uniform orthogonal layout of the Helmholtz Center. This architectural choice creates a bold visual statement at the newly established Gaborplatz, making the campus a landmark in its own right.
At the heart of the HPC lies a spacious atrium that serves as a central hub for communication and work, allowing for a flexible arrangement of facilities across various floor levels. This atrium is designed to facilitate collaboration among scientists, enabling them to engage in research in diverse spatial configurations. The building features adaptable conference rooms and informal work areas at its tapered ends, complemented by flex zones that provide versatile transitions between laboratory and office spaces.
The laboratories within the HPC can be easily partitioned with modular boxes that function like lab furniture, allowing for dynamic reconfiguration based on research needs. A captivating black and white mural greets visitors upon entry, setting an inspiring tone for the building. Furthermore, an innovative orientation system, composed of nine ribbons extending up to 18 meters, not only guides researchers through the building but also reinforces the identity of the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus.
