A SUSPENDED HOUSE, OPEN TO NATURE . Pouilly
A harmonious blend of architecture and nature.
Nestled within a valley at the foot of a wooded hillside, this innovative residence designed by Atelier Victoria Migliore embodies a unique dialogue between architecture and its natural surroundings. The project is characterized by its suspended extension, which is elevated three meters above the natural ground, allowing it to engage with the slope and surrounding vegetation while maximizing sunlight exposure.
The original building, a noble construction, has undergone a meticulous restoration process aimed at revealing its intrinsic beauty. The design philosophy emphasizes purification over transformation, stripping away superfluous partitions and finishes to highlight the original timber structure. The removal of plaster coatings and the cleaning of shutters expose the natural textures of the stonework and flint fragments, returning the house to its primal materiality.
In stark contrast to the mineral presence of the original structure, the new extension introduces a sense of lightness and luminosity. Its triangulated pine structure, fine and rhythmic, shapes an aerial silhouette that complements the existing building. This extension, linked by a polished stainless steel-clad wooden footbridge, opens toward the forest and reflects the sky, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The foundations of flint-aggregate concrete establish a direct link with local materials, reinforcing the project's commitment to sustainability and contextual relevance. This house in the Vexin is a profound exploration of the interplay between shadow, light, and material, resulting in an architecture that is both balanced and open to the passage of time.
