Casa al Pradet
A self-constructed residence harmonizing with the agricultural rhythms of Vilamacolum.
Casa al Pradet stands as a testament to the seamless integration of self-construction, contemporary techniques, and local traditions. Situated in Vilamacolum, Spain, the house is framed by the agricultural landscape characteristic of the Alt Empordà region. Architect Clara Crous, alongside her partner Carles, utilized the unique context of the site to develop a home that resonates with the rhythms of the land.
The structure is based on a light timber frame, prefabricated to optimize both time and resources. The design unfolds through a series of modules, each varying in shape and height, reminiscent of traditional Catalan manor house extensions. Elevated 1.2 meters above ground, the house avoids potential flooding and shields itself from the tramontana winds.
Local materials such as cork, lime mortar, and handmade ceramics define the house, ensuring it remains rooted in its environment. Inside, wood serves as both structure and furniture, creating a warm and continuous material palette. Modern solutions, like motorized shutters controlled by a smart system, blend with traditional elements to enhance functionality.
