Town Hall Quarter, Barcelona
A luminous family home with Mediterranean accents Antònia and Roger's residence in Poblenou, Barcelona, exemplifies the art of maximizing a narrow urban plot through a thoughtful and efficient design. The project, undertaken by MH.AP Studio, navigated the complexities of an already initiated construction to create a home that is both functional and aesthetically distinct. The house is organized across three levels, with the ground floor serving as a transitional space between the street and a private patio. This level features an open kitchen designed for flexibility, seamlessly connecting to the exterior through the use of rectangular beige terracotta tiles that unify both the façade and the interior spaces. Timber flooring on the upper levels introduces warmth and domesticity, contrasting with the robust metal staircase that integrates storage and a bathroom on the ground floor. As the staircase ascends, it lightens, filtering natural light from a skylight above. The second level houses two bedrooms, while the top floor offers a versatile space functioning as a playroom and laundry, with access to a terrace overlooking the patio. The design incorporates Mediterranean architectural elements, such as terracotta tiles and built-in furniture, alongside contemporary features like the striking blue metal structure and exposed heating pipes.
