Studio . Shippon
A Sustainable and Social Office Space in Accra Studio . Shippon, designed by Adjaye Associates, serves as the Accra headquarters for the renowned architecture practice. Situated in the central Cantonments neighborhood, this four-storey building introduces a new paradigm for Grade-A workplaces in West Africa. The building's identity is marked by a striking finned façade and a 26-metre cantilever, elevating the primary workspace and providing over 1,300 square meters of column-free office area. This architectural gesture maximizes spatial efficiency. Materially, the building employs rammed earth and low-carbon concrete, underscoring a commitment to environmental sustainability and the integration of local materials. The rammed earth fins create a largely opaque exterior, ensuring privacy and solar control while framing views across the city. Internally, the building is characterized by an interplay of light and earthen materials, with daylight filtering through the glazed fin system to create warm, tactile interiors. The headquarters accommodates up to 180 people and includes a conference suite, a rooftop terrace with an outdoor kitchen, and a creche led by a qualified early-years teacher. The ground level features an indoor-outdoor pergola, providing a shaded space for meetings and social gatherings.
