Story

A seamless blend of tradition and nature in the Douro Valley Nestled in the picturesque Douro region of Portugal, this project by Pablo Pita Architects masterfully converts a forgotten ruin into a tranquil residential retreat. The house is strategically set upon a hillside, anchored by a traditional stone plinth that extends from the site's original boundary walls. This architectural decision integrates the structure with the surrounding wild landscape. The design employs a minimalist approach, allowing the natural beauty of the Douro Valley to take center stage. The use of local stone and the preservation of the original boundary walls create a dialogue between the old and the new, ensuring the house feels as though it has always belonged to this rugged terrain.

Design Highlights

Traditional stone plinth anchors the structure. Seamless integration with the original boundary walls. Minimalist design emphasizing natural surroundings. Use of local materials to maintain historical continuity.
