A seamless blend of tradition and nature in the Douro Valley Nestled in the picturesque Douro region of Portugal, this project by Pablo Pita Architects masterfully converts a forgotten ruin into a tranquil residential retreat. The house is strategically set upon a hillside, anchored by a traditional stone plinth that extends from the site's original boundary walls. This architectural decision integrates the structure with the surrounding wild landscape. The design employs a minimalist approach, allowing the natural beauty of the Douro Valley to take center stage. The use of local stone and the preservation of the original boundary walls create a dialogue between the old and the new, ensuring the house feels as though it has always belonged to this rugged terrain.
