Rákosrendező Masterplan
A transformative urban vision for Budapest's future The Rákosrendező Masterplan, designed by BIG in collaboration with Vikár és Lukács and Stúdió Kft, reimagines a fragmented urban landscape in Budapest. The project addresses the existing railway corridor that disrupts the city's spatial and social fabric. Drawing inspiration from Budapest's history of bridging divides, the masterplan proposes a continuous linear park named The Leaf Line, which integrates infrastructure with landscape and community spaces. The Leaf Line acts as a connective tissue, transforming the railway's dividing line into a shared landscape that extends into Budapest's larger network of public spaces. This green spine accommodates pedestrian and cycling movement, with East-West crossings facilitating seamless city flow. The Rákos Stream is reopened, enhancing biodiversity and improving the microclimate, while residential blocks reinterpret traditional Budapest courtyards, balancing density with permeability.
