A bold architectural statement in Hangzhou's skyline The Xinhu Prism in Hangzhou, designed by OMA under the leadership of Chris van Duijn, emerges as a striking addition to the city's rapidly evolving urban fabric. The project is set against the backdrop of Hangzhou's lush landscapes and burgeoning tech scene, offering a multifaceted program that includes a hotel, retail spaces, lofts, and a verdant atrium garden. The architectural form is defined by two dramatic oblique cuts through its envelope, creating terraced lofts that offer expansive views of the surrounding scenery. This design gesture maximizes natural light and ventilation within the building. At the heart of the Prism lies a large interior void, transformed into a publicly accessible garden complete with water features and playgrounds, fostering community interaction and leisure. This central space acts as a green lung for the complex, promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing the quality of life for its occupants. Complementing the Prism is an adjacent residential tower, which mirrors the geometric precision of a prism in its façade. Together, these structures aim to cultivate a creative community within Hangzhou's new Central Business District, aligning with the city's ambition to rival major tech hubs like Beijing and Shanghai.
