Planas i Casals – Triomf
Rehabilitating History in Badalona The Planas i Casals – Triomf project by Sau taller d’Arquitectura is a thoughtful transformation of two early 20th-century semi-detached houses into a contemporary residential building. Located at the intersection of Triomf and Planas i Casals streets in Badalona, the project introduces seven dwellings across three floors, harmonizing with the urban fabric while respecting the site's historical memory. The design retains key architectural elements such as facades and structural walls, reinforced by a new steel framework. This structural intervention enhances its resilience against horizontal loads. The strategic placement of the staircase along the party wall optimizes natural light and ventilation, while a central service core organizes technical elements, offering flexibility in the interior layout. The facade's vertical proportions are preserved, with new openings ensuring ample light and ventilation. Contemporary steel balconies provide outdoor spaces, adding dynamic elements to the otherwise disciplined facade. Inside, the exposed white-painted steel structure contrasts with original ceramic walls, creating a luminous and textured environment. The interplay of white surfaces and wooden elements in floors and fixtures achieves a balance between historical preservation and modern living.
