An aerial view of a village landscape featuring a church and a modern building integrated into the terrain. The church, with its tall tower, is surrounded by traditional village houses. The modern structure blends with the landscape, featuring terraces and a flat roof that appears as a public square.

Story

A seamless integration with the landscape of Corbara In the heart of Corbara, facing the Church of the Annunciation and the expansive Balagne landscape, Spaziu Davia Franceschini emerges as a subtle architectural intervention. Rather than imposing a new object onto the site, the design by A Fabrica and Cgz Architecture extends the ground, revealing the natural slope and creating a seamless continuity with the existing village fabric. The project is situated within a historically rich geography, characterized by narrow lanes, stone walls, and agricultural terraces that have long defined the Balagne foothills. These terraces, once cultivated, are not merely formal references but serve as guiding principles for the building's implantation. The architecture unfolds as a reconstructed topography, alternating between retaining wall, enclosure, and inhabited façade, effectively blurring the lines between built form and landscape. From the upper site, the roof transforms into a public square, offering panoramic views of the surrounding territory. Pathways weave through the site, connecting the village's existing routes with the church forecourt and landscaped terraces, integrating the building into the village promenade. Internally, the building maintains a single-level organization despite the steep terrain. A central passageway, reminiscent of the village lanes, organizes the program, distributing spaces for ceremonies, exhibitions, and community events. The architecture's materiality, with its massive, mineral façades, echoes the vernacular stone structures of the region, while large openings frame views of the sky, the church, and the distant landscape.
