Story

Transforming a compact space into a modern, functional home In the dense urban landscape of Hong Kong, where space is at a premium, designers Ada Wong and Eric Liu of littleMORE Interior Design have reimagined a 35-year-old apartment into a bright and modern living space for a young woman and her cat. Originally segmented into several small rooms, the apartment felt enclosed and disconnected from the natural light. The renovation strategy focused on creating a singular, open living space that is both functional and visually expansive. The designers eschewed traditional walls and doors, opting instead for smart built-in elements that softly delineate spaces while maintaining a cohesive visual flow. A standout feature is the Pecan wood wall, which cleverly conceals multiple functional elements, including the bathroom door, a structural column, and a wardrobe. This design choice adds warmth to the minimalist interior. Adjacent to the wood feature wall, a compact workspace introduces a pop of color with blue textured wallpaper, defining the area without physical barriers. A window seat beside the workspace draws in natural light, enhancing the apartment's welcoming atmosphere. The sleeping area is subtly defined by a raised platform bed, separated from the living room by a small wood bookshelf. This arrangement allows light to permeate the space while providing storage and maintaining an open feel. The kitchen, concealed behind a charcoal black metal-framed sliding glass door, adds an industrial touch and ensures the space remains connected yet private when needed. The bathroom continues the warm, modern material palette with wood accents and glass surfaces, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic throughout the apartment. This renovation exemplifies how thoughtful space planning and multifunctional design can transform compact urban living into a bright, adaptable home.
