Circular open-air theater with tiered seating, surrounded by trees and overlooking the sea.

An open-air circular theater with tiered seating overlooking a scenic coastal landscape with lush greenery and a view of the sea.

Story

An open-air theatre harmonizing with the Mediterranean landscape The Theater in the Santa Clotilde Gardens, designed by scob, is a sensitive intervention that introduces a small open-air theatre into one of Catalonia's most emblematic historic gardens. This project extends the principles of order, clarity, and landscape relationship characteristic of the noucentista garden, originally conceived by Rubió i Tudurí. The theatre is strategically placed in a natural clearing, facing the sea, and utilizes the existing topography to define seating tiers and pathways. The use of sablón, a local material derived from decomposed granite, ensures continuity with the historic pavements and walls. This material choice, along with lime renders, reinforces the connection between the new and the old. The design includes a circular stage, tiered seating for approximately 300 people, and two small architectural volumes for dressing rooms and services, all integrated without disturbing the surrounding vegetation. The theatre's orientation towards Cala Boadella offers a unique natural backdrop, merging the sea and mountains into a permanent scenic element.
