House under a Wooden Roof
A dwelling in the heart of the Pre-Pyrenees The "House under a Wooden Roof" in Vilada, designed by andrea + joan arquitectes, is a thoughtful response to both its regulatory and natural context. The project maximizes its footprint within municipal constraints, organizing the interior around a central, collective space. This spatial arrangement is composed of three equally dimensioned rooms and efficiently arranged service cores that distribute the domestic program. The design emphasizes volume over surface, introducing an intermediate loft level above the parking area. This loft is open to the central space, allowing natural light to permeate the core of the house. The architectural centerpiece is a large pitched roof that supports lighting elements and captures dynamic shadow patterns. Constructed with load-bearing thermo-clay block walls and continuous external insulation, the building is designed for climatic efficiency. The size and orientation of openings are optimized for passive solar gain, with timber shutters providing additional protection. The house is a culturally and physically rooted structure, framing views of the Serrat del Migdia while being sheltered by its timber roof.
