Story

A seamless blend of contemporary design and historical architecture in Neuchâtel. The Collège des Parcs in Neuchâtel exemplifies a thoughtful integration of modern architectural expression with the city's rich heritage. Designed by STOA, the extension at the rear of the historic school building respects the architectural tradition while introducing a symmetrical plan that efficiently organizes classrooms and school life spaces. The south façade features colonnades conceived as true loggias, extending the playground and providing versatile outdoor activity areas accessible directly from the classrooms. This design enriches the educational environment, offering pupils an engaging learning experience throughout the year. The façade's reinterpretation of the Heimatstil language ensures stylistic continuity with the surrounding structures. Material and color choices facilitate seamless integration into Neuchâtel's urban fabric, creating vibrant and adaptable spaces. An innovative underground sports hall preserves the historic character of the site while accommodating modern facilities. Discreetly inserted into the building's plinth, the sports hall features light wells that illuminate the underground circulation spaces, enhancing both heritage preservation and spatial quality. The multifunctional pavilion, serving as a covered playground and main entrance to the sports facilities, strengthens the connection between academic and athletic activities, transforming the schoolyard into an urban park during non-teaching hours.
