Grid House
A duality of lightness and solidity in Menorca Grid House by Nomo Studio is a striking architectural composition that balances a light, hovering structure atop a solid, partially excavated base. Situated on the sloping terrain of Menorca, the house is defined by a raw concrete grid of beams and columns, cantilevered at the corners to extend into the surrounding landscape. This design reinforces the house’s low-built presence and its seamless integration with the environment. The main living level is a generous platform designed for a couple to live independently, featuring a fully functional and accessible layout. It serves as the primary access floor, with a three-sided glazed perimeter enclosing the living area, kitchen, and ensuite master bedroom. This design allows for uninterrupted visual continuity with the surrounding terraces, where indoor and outdoor spaces merge naturally. The 15-meter-long swimming pool, positioned along the south edge, is an integral architectural element, directly connected to the living room and terraces, stretching towards the expansive views. Beneath the elevated platform, a more grounded volume accommodates guest rooms, oriented towards eastern sea views. The architectural expression of the two levels is distinguished by the façade treatment: horizontally articulated cladding above and a softer rendered finish below, unified by an off-white palette. Arrival is choreographed through a sequence of steps rising through planted terraces, visually dissolving the base into the garden and reinforcing the dialogue between structure and landscape.
