Access to the Altos Hornos de Bizkaia
An urban intervention bridging the industrial past and present through innovative design.
Located in the heart of Sestao, the Access to the Altos Hornos de Bizkaia project is an architectural endeavor that seamlessly integrates the historical significance of the Bizkaia Blast Furnace with the modern urban fabric. As part of the regeneration plan for the Txabarri neighborhood, this project not only aims to enhance accessibility but also to celebrate the industrial heritage of the area.
The project introduces an urban elevator and staircase designed to overcome the 25-meter height difference between the Txabarri neighborhood and the meander housing the monument. By strategically relocating the structure away from the Blast Furnace, the design creates a new anteroom, enhancing the monument's presence and establishing a visual dialogue with the Portugalete Hanging Bridge.
Design Highlights
