Public Square in Pont-de-Buis-lès-Quimerc’h
A new focal point for community and commerce
The project in Pont-de-Buis-lès-Quimerc’h creates a cohesive blend of shops, a public square, a market hall, and a train stop, addressing the need for a central community hub. The design retains the historical train station pavilion, fostering a dialogue between the new market hall and the town's heritage. The central hall, with its simple, circular form, serves as a new landmark, facilitating diverse uses within an efficient architectural framework.
A micro-perforated curtain, reminiscent of agricultural tarps, shields users from the elements while maintaining light and transparency. At the core of the design, a landscaped patio enhances natural light, manages rainwater, and the landscape quality, fulfilling both symbolic and practical roles. The sloping mono-pitched roof accommodates various uses, especially for merchants around the perimeter.
The project integrates seamlessly into the town’s urban fabric, with shops occupying existing buildings and a new cultural space in the elevated former station. This space marks the start of a local hiking trail, reinforcing the project's connection to its environment. Through a sensitive yet pragmatic approach, the design the public square, offering a new living space deeply rooted in its territory.
