Mariola House
A vertical house in Granada, reimagined by Palera Arquitectos, offering a hidden city viewpoint. Mariola House the delicate balance between memory and modernity. Situated in Granada, the project by Palera Arquitectos replaces an existing structure, honoring the essence of the original vertical house that overlooked a backyard. The design process was deeply influenced by the memories of the previous owner, resulting in a home that is both nostalgic and contemporary. The staircase is a central feature, designed with a lightweight aesthetic, anchored to the structure through its stringer and railing. This element ascends through the structural openings, reaching for the zenithal light that filters through a skylight crowning the stairwell. The unexpected appearance of the Torre de la Vela of the Alhambra from the roof slab adds an unanticipated layer of connection to the city's historic skyline. Regulations prevented the roof from being developed as an accessible space. However, an operable skylight above the shower ingeniously allows residents to access the roof, offering a discreet vantage point over Granada.
